As the state prepares for the counting of polls for 2 parliamentary constituencies and 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency by-election on June 4 next, the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Puneet Agarwal on Saturday chaired a meeting with the representatives of political parties of the state to ensure peaceful poll counting.
Additional Chief Election Officer Usha Jen Mog, Additional Chief Election Officer Subhashis Banerjee and representatives of various political parties were present in this all-party meeting organized at the conference hall of the Chief Electoral Officer's office.
In the meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Aggarwal said that the counting of votes for the two parliamentary constituencies of the state and the by-election of the 7-Ramnagar assembly constituency will be completed on June 4, 2024. The counting process will start from 8 am in a total of 20 polling stations in the state, he said.
He said that section 144 will be in force within 100 meters of each counting center in the state and the counting process will be completed under the supervision of Additional Returning Officers of 60 assembly constituencies. Votes will be counted at 8-14 counting tables in each of the 60 counting centers at 20 counting stations in the state.
Chief Electoral Officer Punit Aggarwal said that ballot papers which reach the offices of the Returning Officers by 8 am on the counting day will also be counted. Five VVPATs will be counted in the table of AROs for each Assembly Constituency. A total of 60 Counting Observers have been appointed for 60 Assembly constituencies to monitor the counting properly and 1 Counting Observer has been appointed for the counting of by-elections in 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituencies, he said.
He said that counting agents of political parties must follow the guidelines of the Election Department to enter the counting center. A three-tier security ring has been set up at each counting centre. He urged everyone to maintain peace during the post-counting period and accept the results announced by the Election Commission.
