Chailengta Bazar witnessed heightened tensions as retail traders staged a protest, blocking the crucial Manu-Chawmanu road. The demonstration arose from a dispute with the sub-divisional administration over restricted access to the recently transformed weekly haat market ground.
Traditionally, retail traders have utilized the Chailengta market ground for their businesses. However, recent efforts by the sub-divisional administration to level and clean the area prompted a clash when traders were denied permission to create temporary shops. The administration prohibited the customary practice of making holes in the ground for setting up bamboo structures essential for displaying and arranging goods.
Expressing frustration at the restrictions, traders argued that the absence of temporary shops hampers their ability to organize merchandise effectively. In response, they blocked the Manu-Chawmanu road, a critical transportation route in the region.
The demand from the protesting retailers is straightforward: either they want permission to continue their business as usual in the Chailengta market ground or they seek an alternative location for their weekly haat. Sub-divisional administration officials have intervened to address the situation, engaging in negotiations to find a resolution that balances the administration's desire to maintain the improved market ground condition and the traders' insistence on preserving their customary business space.
