CM announces two kilometers road divider project to enhance traffic safety

AGARTALA:

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the state government is working on making the traffic system more efficient and safe and in order to make traffic movement smoother, a plan has been taken to install road dividers for about 2 kilometers on the national highway.

Dr. Saha mentioned that the road dividers will be set up starting from Badharghat Chowmuhani to the International Fair Ground at Hapania premises in the southern part of the capital city.

This information was provided by the Chief Minister in response to a calling attention motion brought by MLA Sushanta Deb during the state assembly session on Wednesday.

In the meeting, Dr. Saha also highlighted details about the flyover in Agartala, which starts from Baradowali Fire Station and ends near Fire Service Chowmuhani via Battala.

“A section of it extends from Battala towards Melarmath. The total length of this flyover is 2.26 km, and its width is 7.50 meters. After the construction of this flyover was completed, it was opened for traffic on October 5, 2018. The primary objective of constructing this flyover was to ease traffic congestion in the central part of Agartala city, especially in areas like Nagerjala Bus Stand, Battala, Melarmath, and Paradise Chowmuhani during peak hours,” he stated.

The Chief Minister further explained that after exiting the Baradowali Fire Station end of the flyover, some vehicles proceed towards Agartala Railway Station via AD Nagar, Camper Bazar, and Siddhi Ashram, while others head towards South Tripura.

Dr. Saha added that the average length from Baradowali to Hapania is around 3.38 km, with a width of 14.00 meters, which is currently sufficient for vehicle movement in both directions between South Tripura and Agartala.

“Road dividers are presently installed on a 1.20-kilometer section of this road from the Dropgate area to Badharghat Chowmuhani. To make the traffic system more integrated and safe, a plan has been adopted to install road dividers on a 2.00-kilometer section of this road from Badharghat Chowmuhani to the International Fair Ground at Hapania,” Dr. Saha said, clarifying that there is no plan to extend the flyover in Agartala to the International Fair Ground, Hapania premises at this time.
