Accompanied by the Chief Minister of Assam Himata Biswa Sarma and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday filed his nomination papers from Town Bordowali constituency to contest in the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
The Chief Ministers of Assam and Manipur including the BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra and others joined Dr. Saha while his rally wheeled to move across the capital town of Agartala. Dr. Saha held a road show before filing his nomination.
Polling for the elections to the 60-member Tripura legislative assembly will be held in a single phase on February 16, while the counting of votes will be held on March 2 next.
All the candidates of the ruling BJP party in Tripura filed nomination papers from their respective constituency, while the BJP candidate from 6-Agartala constituency – Papia Dutta, contesting against the Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Monday filed her nomination paper.
Filing the nomination the BJP candidate Papia Dutta expressed her hope that people will vote for the BJP in 6-Agartala constituency to get rid off from the long term deprivation.
Talking about her contestant from the Congress party – Sudip Roy Barman, she said, “Just for some personal conflict he left the BJP party, because if he would have quit the party on the party's ideological ground, he would not have joined BJP. We have seen that even after he was sacked from the minister's post, he praised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his developmental works for the state.”
She also expressed concern over the CPI(M)-Congress agreement of seat sharing and said that the people of this state will not accept this.
Meanwhile, the Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Monday filed his nomination from his 6-Agartala constituency and said, “People of Tripura are eyeing forward for a new dawn. I believe that the people of this state will vote for the Congress party.”
“We are equally as strong as the Left parties and accordingly based on various inputs from various agencies through our party workers and leaders, the AICC thought that the Congress should contest in minimum 17 seats,” he told reporters.
He however said that as was assured the Election Commission will ensure free and fair election this time and people come in large number to exercise their franchise.
