Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said that the government will write to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to allow ‘Roman’ script for the indigenous students to write their Kokborok papers.
The Chief Minister said this during the zero hour of the ongoing winter assembly session. Replying to the query of the Leader of Opposition and TIPRA Motha MLA Animesh Debbarma, the Chief Minister said that the government has already constituted a 3-member committee to look into the matter of selection of script for Kokborok, which is yet to submit the report.
Dr Saha, who also holds the education portfolio, said that after the committee submits their report containing their findings, the government will write to the CBSE. Presently, the state lacks books in Roman script as well as trained teachers for preparing questions and evaluating answers in the script, he added.
Arguing the reply of the Chief Minister, the LoP Animesh Debbarma said that there is not more time left to wait for the committee report as the CBSE will schedule examination from February 15 next.
“I urge the chief minister to write a letter to the CBSE for allowing Roman script for Kokborok," he said.
