The 71st Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) will be held on January 19 in Shillong, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah presiding over the event.
Governors and Chief Ministers from all NEC member states are expected to attend the session, which will take place at the State Convention Center at 9:30 am.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday attended the meeting and demanded the Centre for increase in allocation of NEC funds for the state of Tripura. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah for their special attention to the development of Tripura.
Dr Saha in his social media handle stated, “In my speech, I also requested for - Increase in allocation of NEC funds, Upgrading TMC into AIIMS like institute, Setting up Medical College in TTAADC area, Increase in Natural Gas allocation for industrial purpose, Early operationalization of Agartala-Cox Baazar International flight, Easing ceiling on borrowing under Externally Aided Projects, Easing barriers for trade with Bangladesh etc.”
The NEC, headquartered in Shillong, consists of eight northeastern states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. The North Eastern Council (NEC) is a statutory body established under the North Eastern Council Act of 1971 and has been in operation since 1972.
