Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday chaired a review meeting of the Tripura state Wildlife Board here in the conference hall of the secretariat and emphasized on protection of forest resources and endangered animals.
In the review meeting the Chief Minister laid emphasis on developing tourism based on forests and wildlife. He urged upon the forest officials to work on this through innovative thinking.
“To make Tripura tourism more attractive to the tourists of the country and abroad, it is necessary to take a responsible role in protecting the forests and wildlife,” Dr Saha said and directed the officials to give special importance to the protection of forest resources and endangered wildlife in the state.
He said that new initiatives should be taken to increase the tourist attraction in the national parks and sanctuaries located in the state. Chief Minister laid emphasis on starting an elephant safari in the state for tourists. This will also help in generating employment opportunities for the people living in the interior areas, he added.
Dr Saha also laid emphasis on wide promotion of the tourist centres of the state. Alternative measures should be adopted to prevent wild elephant infestation in various residential areas and avoid conflict between wildlife and people. Besides, he also laid importance on keeping adequate provision of food for elephants. The Chief Minister advised the concerned authorities to conduct a detailed survey to find out the reasons behind the extinction of the endangered vultures in the state.
Meanwhile, in the review meeting, the state Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma emphasized on implementing innovative ideas of different sanctuaries in the country and abroad in the sanctuaries of the state.
In the meeting, Chief Conservator of Forests R K Samal gave detailed information on the various initiatives and programs undertaken by the Forest Department through a pictorial report.
