Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated the five days long National School Games Under 17 Yoga Competition here at Agartala NSRCC and encouraged the youths and children of the state to practice yoga.
“Presently, India is leading the world in yoga. In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call, the United Nations has declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. Since then, yoga is being practiced worldwide,” Dr Saha said.
The Chief Minister interacted with the participants from different parts of the country and hoped that the contestants will be able to showcase their talent in yoga practices. Contestants from 27 states of the country participated in this competition.
In the event, the state sports and youth affairs minister Tinku Roy said that many sportspersons who have emerged from the state of Tripura have today achieved fame at the national and international levels.
Secretary of the sports department Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Tripura Sports Council Secretary Sukanta Ghosh, Padma Shri Deepa Karmakar, National Federation Observer Dinesh Singh and others were present on the occasion.
