Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan and Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan’ (PM-SURAJ) national portal and sanctioned credit support to one lakh entrepreneurs of disadvantaged sections.
The launching ceremony was officially broadcasted Live from Agartala Muktadhara Auditorium on Wednesday. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha accompanied by the state industry minister Santana Chakma, Minister Sudhangshu Das and others were present in the programme.
During the event, the Prime Minister interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes targeting marginalised groups, including Scheduled Castes, backward classes, and sanitation workers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the significance of initiatives like PM-SURAJ in providing financial assistance directly to beneficiaries, eliminating middlemen and commissions.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha hailed the initiative of the PM Modi led government at the Centre over supporting the marginalized sector and said that no state can progress without the upliftment of all sections of people in the country.
He said that the present government of the state is working under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the upliftment of socio-economic conditions of all sections of people of Tripura.
“Till the year 2018, the number of self-help groups in the state was about 4000 only, which now grew to around 56000. About 4.5 lakh women are associated with these groups,” Dr Saha said, adding that government facilities are being delivered to the beneficiaries at their homes using technology.
