Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday expressed his concern over the sharp rise of illegal drug trade and held the foreign nations responsible for it. He said that Tripura ranks first in terms of seizure of illegal drugs in the Northeast and the government is committed to bring down the drug trafficking in the state.
Addressing the 17th Merit Award and Freshers’ Meet of the indigenous Mog community at Ujan Abhaynagar in Agartala, Dr. Saha said that a large section of youths has fallen prey to addiction, and gambling.
The Chief Minister sought the cooperation from the guardians of the youths in the state in combating drug menace and its illegal trafficking and said, “Our law enforcement agencies are trying to combat the problem.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister on Sunday underlined the government’s initiatives for tribal welfare and said that the long pending resettlement issues with the Bru community has been resolved by resettling 37,000 displaced Bru migrants from Mizoram in Tripura permanently.
“The state government has rechristened Baramura Hills, Atharamura Hills, and Gandacherra in Tripura’s indigenous Kokborok language,” he said, adding that the government has also declared a holiday on Garia Puja and set up the Tribal Research and Cultural Institute and Museum at Lembucherra, among other measures, to benefit the tribal population.
He said, “Tripura government is working diligently for the welfare of the tribals in the state moving in line with the PM Modi’s mantra – Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.”
