Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated the 49th Bizu festival of the Chakma tribes of the state here at Agartala Swami Vivekananda ground and said that the government is working to enhance the unity between the tribals and non-tribals of the state so as to build ‘Ek Tripura Srestha Tripura’.
Addressing a gathering of tribal groups of the state in the festival, the Chief Minister said that the government is also working to uplift the socio-economic status of the 19 tribes of the state in Tripura.
“A large number of tribal women are inducted in Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The number of SHGs in Tripura increased 11 times more than before. We are working to empower the women of all sections through the SHGs and other means,” he said.
Dr. Saha said, “At least four Ekalavya residential schools are built in the state to impart education among the tribal students and construction of more 16 Ekalavya schools are underway.”
Referring to the HIRA model of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chief minister said, “Most of the highways built newly in the state passed through the tribal dominated areas of the state enhancing the state’s connectivity. 12 aspirational blocks were announced in the tribal areas to render 10 times more benefit to the families in the blocks, government hiked stipend money for the pre-matric and post-matric tribal students of the state, the Agartala MBB airport has been named after Tripura Maharaja and many other welfare works for the tribals in Tripura are underway.”
Bizu festival is considered as one of the most important festivals in Tripura. This is a festival of the Chakma tribes of Tripura, which marks the Chaitra-sankranti, which is the last day of the Bengali calendar.
