In a giant leap towards providing accessible and affordable healthcare to the common man, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday launched the ‘Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana’, aligning with the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
The Chief Minister inaugurated the Rs. 5 lakh health insurance scheme here in a function at Agartala Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan playground.
Addressing the inauguration function Chief Minister Dr Saha said that the scheme, which is aligning with the Ayushman Bharat-Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is to ensure health insurance coverage for the people, who were left out from the Central scheme.
Dr Saha, who also holds the health portfolio said, “Out of total 9.756 lakh families, 5.12 lakh families could be brought under the coverage of the central health scheme, while the rest about 4.15 lakh families will now be brought under the coverage of the state owned CMJAY scheme.”
“In many cases it is seen that the people suffering from the disease feel helpless in their treatment of their diseases. The state government has taken this scheme considering this helplessness of common people. The main objective of the scheme is to provide medical coverage to every citizen of the state,” he added.
He said, “Government employees of different categories of the state can also come under this scheme. But they must surrender medical allowance and medical reimbursement. Under the scheme, eligible families will get free treatment worth Rs 5 lakh every year.”
“Recently, the DoNER ministry has sanctioned a total of Rs 717 crore rupees for 5 projects for the development of infrastructure in the state. Among them, there are 3 projects for the development of health infrastructure. Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital have almost doubled the number of beds from 727 to 1413, newly constructed Super Specialty Block inaugurated at GBP Hospital, super specialty services like Cardiology, CTVS, Nephrology, Urology, Plastic Surgery and NeuroSurgery have been introduced. Simultaneously, newly renovated Paediatric Ward and PICU, Geriatric Ward, Extended Dialysis Unit and Female Medicine Ward-II were also inaugurated,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that arrangements have been made to train doctors and nursing staff to start kidney transplant and therapy services in the state. For the overall development of the health infrastructure of the state, the state government has allocated funds in the budget for the construction of 100 health sub-centres. The infrastructure of district hospitals is being strengthened to reduce the patient pressure in the main hospitals of the state, he said.
