Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday inaugurated a day long awareness program here at Agartala on consumer rights and said that the consumers needs to be more aware about their rights.
Addressing the awareness programme here at Agartala Rabindra Bhavan on Monday, the Chief Minister said that to get a proper justice in due time, consumers need to collect cash memo from the shopkeepers while purchasing any goods. Dr Saha pitched to generate more awareness through programmes of different categories to avoid being scammed in buying properties or any goods from shops and online.
The Chief Minister on Monday also inaugurated consumer clubs in educational institutions and said that the consumers clubs were formed in 100 schools of the state and in 18 colleges under the initiative of the Department of Food, Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs.
“Tripura government is committed to provide better services to the people by maintain the transparency,” Dr Saha said, adding that E-PDS system has already been introduced to bring transparency in public distribution system. Old ration cards are being converted into PVC cards, to ease the ration card holders to draw their rations, he added.
Meanwhile, the state consumer affairs minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday said that the Public distribution system has been digitized so that genuine consumers can collect their ration items. Besides, the department is trying to make the public distribution system more people-oriented, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, the State Consumer Commission President and Tripura High Court Justice Arindam Lodh said that making consumers aware of the Consumer Protection Act in the digital age is a very timely step.
