CM Dr Manik Saha visits violence-hit Gandacherra; announces additional relief package for victims

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday made his first visit to Gandacherra in Dhalai district of the state, where several families were rendered homeless due to a clash between two groups.

Dr Saha was accompanied by the secretary of the home department P K Chakraborty, Chief Secretary J K Sinha, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DGP (Intelligence) Anurag, Chief Engineer of the PWD department Rajib Debbarma and others.

During his visit, the Chief Minister took stock of the situation of the violence and interested with the family members of the deceased Parameshwar Reang, who was allegedly killed during Ananda Mela in Gandacherra. The Chief Minister announced addition relief of Ra 4 lakhs to the deceased family and said that earlier the government had released Rs 6 lakhs to the families as part of relief package.

The Chief Minister inspected the houses and shops, which were looted and torched in the violence on July 12 last, following the tragic death of the youth Parameshwar Reang.

The Chief Minister also announced a total relief package of Rs 3.05 crores for the affected families. Regarding security arrangement, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio on Sunday said that he had asked the police administration to strengthen the security system in Gandacherra subdivision and establish a police camp.

Additionally, the Chief Minister declared an all-round development package of Rs 238 crores for the Gandatwisa sub-division in Dhalai district.

The Chief Minister also announced the construction of a new Narayanpur Market with 30 market stalls and the overall development of the Gandatwisa Market Area. The Chief Minister further announced that the 51- kilometer Gandatwisa-Ambassa road would also be developed.

Saha also announced plans to set up two more permanent security forces camps in the vulnerable areas. The Chief Minister made other developmental announcements, including setting up a new 50-bed integrated rehabilitation centre for drug addicts and developing the overall infrastructure of schools in Gandatwisa.

The relief and development packages aim to provide immediate assistance to the affected families and support the long-term growth and stability of the Gandatwisa area.
