The former Congress MLA in Tripura – Billal Miah, who was suspended by his party on Wednesday last has joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata party in presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, party’s state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and others at Sonamura on Thursday.
Joining the BJP, Billal Miah castigated his former party Congress and said that the leaders who are running the Congress party in Tripura are those who established the Left front government in the year 1993. “They are those leaders in the Congress party who continuously help the Left front forming a government to misrule the people of Tripura,” he said.
He said, “I have joined the BJP party to diminish the CPI-M from Tripura, who are now in a position to make seat adjustments with the Congress and other parties of the state.”
“Being in the Congress I tried my best to work for the people of this state and also to fight against the misrule of the then Left front government, but I could not work properly,” he said, adding that the BJP’s ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas’ had inspired me to join this party.
He said, “I believe that being in the BJP work which is brining all round development to the state, I will be able to work for the people of Sonamura, moving in line with the BJP’s ideology.”
Miah’s expulsion from the Congress party came days after a team of BJP leaders, including Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das and others visited him at his residence.
