Two days before the counting of polls, the Chief Electoral Officer of the state election commission Kiran Gitte accompanied by the DM Debapriya Bardhan on Tuesday visited the strong room here at Agartala Umakanta School premise to check the counting preparedness.
During his visit the CEO said, “The poll counting will begin from 8 am morning on March 8 next, while in the first phase postal ballots will be opened for counting which will continue till 8.30 am, and in the next phase the EVMs will be opened for counting.”
“The Returning Officers have been giving final shape to the arrangements of the counting rooms set up in 21 different locations across the state,” he told reporters.
He said that there are altogether 23 subdivisions and for each subdivision, one counting centre has been set up except for Mohanpur and Jirania subdivisions. These two subdivisions have been tagged with the Sadar district, he added further.
“There are two buildings in the Umakanta Academy School. The new building and the old building. The assembly constituencies have been distributed among these two infrastructures. In one building counting of nine seats will take place while the other five seats have been allocated,” CEO said.
He however appealed all the political parties and other walks of life to maintain peace in post-counting period on March 2 and aftermath.
