A six-member delegation of the opposition CPI(M) party on Monday met the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and sought his intervention over the incidents of post-poll violence.
The party’s delegation was headed by the former leader of opposition and party’s politburo member Manik Sarkar and it comprised CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, Left Front convener Narayan Kar, former minister Manik Dey, former deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar and former legislator Sudhan Das.
“We raised our concern about the increasing rate of post poll violence and we drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the reports of at least 2016 incidents of post-poll violence, including five deaths, which began since the declaration of the poll result across the state,” Sarkar said in a press conference here at the party headquarter at Melarmath in Agartala on Monday evening.
He said, “The state of Tripura had earlier suffered from insurgencies and now it is suffering from political terror being hatched by the BJP.”
“We said to the Chief Minister that the post poll violence began since March 2 causing hurdles in the means of livelihood of the common man, including attacks on rubber plantations, agriculture fields, water bodies, etc,” he told reporters.
He said, “The Chief Minister listened to us and assured that he would take proactive role in dealing with all these issues. We said that the Left party will provide constructive cooperation to the state government inside and outside the assembly.”
The CPI(M) delegation demanded the government compensation to the families affected by the post poll violence across the state.
