The opposition CPI(M) on Monday demanded the State Election Commission to ensure proper security arrangement to ensure peaceful poll counting on June 4 next.
The party in its press communique on Monday stated that the party’s delegation comprising of state secretary Jitendra Choudhury, Narayan Kar and Manik Dey met the State Election Officer here at Agartala and sought his intervention to ensure proper security arrangement.
“The 18th Lok Sabha elections in Tripura ended with widespread rigging, with voters prevented from coming to polling stations and agents of opposition political parties being beaten up. Before the election and during the election, the help of the election officials and the police administration was not received, demanding fair and free elections,” CPI(M) stated in its press communique.
The press communique further stated, “Votes will be counted tomorrow. Conspiracies to disrupt the environment at the counting center have already begun. CPI(M) delegation met the State Election Officer today on June 3 in a deputation demanding peaceful and smooth completion of counting of votes.”
The state election officials agreed to take proper security measures at the counting centers and to ensure that the counting agents of various political parties, especially the opposition parties, reach the counting centers and reach home safely after counting, it further stated.
