The cardiac surgery team of GB Pant Hospital completed a successful rare operation and removed a 200 grams weight of tumor from the heart.
This operation is completely accessible through Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana. 35-year-old Renu Begum, a resident of West Noabadi, suffered from heart problems for several months and had to be admitted to the hospital several times with breathing problems. Examination at the CTVS department revealed a large tumor in the left ventricle of her heart, which was blocking her mitral valve.
CTVS department hastily prepared for her surgery. Similarly, on March 20, a cardiac surgery team led by cardiac surgeon Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharya successfully removed this 200-gram heart tumor after performing 6-hour long open heart surgery.
In medical terms, its name is cardiac myxoma. It is a rare heart disease. One among 20 lakh people can have this heart tumor. Easy panting, shortness of breath and palpitation in the chest can be common symptoms. This is the first time this operation has been successfully carried out in the state.
The patient is now recovering slowly in the ICU after the operation and is breathing and eating normally. Apart from the cardiac surgeon, cardiac anaesthesiologist Dr. Monimoy Debbarma, Jaydeep Debnath, per fusionist Sujan Gach, surgeon assistant Sudipta Mondal, scrub nurse Zahir Hossain, Saurabh Shil, Arpita Sarkar, Moushumi Debnath, Atma Bahadur Jamatia, anesthesia technician were in this operation team along with Joydeep Chakraborty, Ratan Mondal, Amrit Murasingh Coordinator Abhishek Datta, and Richashree Sarkar, etc. were present.
Dr. Bhattacharya thanked all the officials concerned, staff nurses and the patient's family for their cooperation in the surgery. The family has expressed satisfaction that the successful operation was free.
