Cyclone Remal causes extensive damage to Tripura power sector; Rs 5 crore loss incurred

As the cyclone Remal has hit the state, the state power sector has incurred a loss of Rs 5 crore from the extensive damage caused by the cyclonic storm recently, said Power Secretary Abhishek Singh on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat on Thursday, the power secretary said that due to the impact of the cyclone, there has been extensive damage to the power system in all the districts of the state.

“About 550 kms of transmission lines were damaged across the state, 850 power poles were damaged, and over 100 transformers were damaged. At present, 994 employees of the contractor company along with the employees of the electricity department are working to restore the electricity service in the state,” her told reporters.

He said, “Already about 60 percent of the electricity pole repair work has been completed. The repair and placement of the remaining poles will also be completed quickly.” He said that various departments including forest department, SDRF, NDRF, state administration are working together to normalize electricity service in the state.

He however informed that there has been no loss of life in the state so far due to the administration's advance preparations to deal with Cyclone Remal.
