In a tragic incident early today, 23 shops in Dhumachara market, located in Longtharai Valley sub-division, were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire was first noticed in one of the shops, prompting immediate notification to the shop owners and emergency services. A fire engine from Manu was swiftly dispatched to the scene, but the intensity of the blaze overwhelmed initial containment efforts.
Subsequently, another fire engine from Chailengta was rushed to the spot to bolster firefighting efforts. Despite the valiant attempts of the firemen and the assistance of local residents, it took approximately three hours to bring the inferno under control.
Unfortunately, by the time the fire was subdued, significant damage had already been inflicted, with several shops being completely destroyed. Panic gripped the minds of traders throughout the market as the extent of the devastation became apparent.
The authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire, while efforts to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to affected shop owners are underway. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and vigilance in commercial establishments.
