DGP dismisses oppositions’ claim of deteriorated law and order situation

AGARTALA:

Ruling out the opposition political parties’ allegation of deteriorated law and order situation in Tripura, the Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan on Monday claimed that the situation has improved in the state.

Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Monday, the DGP said that misinformation is being spread. He said, “The fact is that the state has recorded a lesser number of crimes this year compared to the last 10 years.”

Referring to the alleged custodial death of a tribal youth in Manubazar police station, the DGP said that the police do make mistakes sometimes but action was taken swiftly in the case.

The DGP’s statement came amid the opposition's criticism of the police over the death of a tribal youth after alleged custodial torture, the murder of a businessman in Agartala, and communal tensions in North Tripura's Kadamtala and Panisagar.
