The Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday launched Tripura’s organic queen pineapple at a function in Delhi in presence of the state’s agriculture minister Ratan Lal Nath.
The initiative of exhibiting the queen variety of pineapple of Tripura and selling the fruit in Dilli Haat held at Delhi on Thursday was taken up so as to build a market linkage to cope up with the adequate demand of the pineapple across the globe. The Tripura government started the marketing of the queen variety of pineapple globally tagging this as the state fruit.
On this occasion, the uniqueness, quality and usefulness of Tripura’s organic Queen Pineapple was displayed and a tasting session was also held.
In the program, Agriculture Minister Tomar said that the development of the North Eastern region is the priority of the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to reports, Tripura grows an estimated 1.28 MT of pineapples every year across 8,800 hectares of land. The productivity of pineapple per hectare is 18.73 MT, which is higher than the national average of 15.80 MT.
