The doctors of Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) at Agartala Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital have once again successfully completed cochlear implant surgery through highly complex and delicate surgery.
As per the director of the health department, a child named Pratiksha Sarkar from Camper Bazar area of Agartala was born dumb and deaf.
The ENT specialist doctors at AGMC and GB Pant Hospital, Agartala, took the decision to perform the surgery on the child on April 1 after conducting ancillary tests.
“In this surgery, doctors implant highly sophisticated electronic devices inside the skull very close to the brain. Agartala Government Medical College & GB Pant Hospital provided this implant completely free of cost by ADIP of the Government of India. The cost of this implant is around Rs 6 lakh”, he said.
He said that mentor surgeons in the surgical team were ENT Surgeon Professor Dr. Amitabh Roy Chowdhury and Head of the Department of ENT Professor Dr. Biplab Nath.
Anesthesiologist was Dr. Anupam Chakraborty. Also other health workers including OT staff nurses participate in surgery. The child is currently healthy and normal after surgery.
