In a significant operation aimed at preventing infiltration across the India-Bangladesh international border, Government Railway Police in Agartala Railway Station has detained 8 Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals on Saturday.
Speaking with reporters, Officer In charge of GRP in Agartala Railway station, Sanjib Sen said a special drive has been successfully conducted by authorities in the state resulted in the detention of eight individuals suspected of being Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals.
"During routine checks on trains arriving from outside the state, we identified several individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that five individuals were identified as Bangladeshi nationals and three were confirmed to be Rohingya refugees", he said.
The detained individuals have been identified as Abdul Jalil, Bilal Hossain, Abdul Kader, Md Kawsar, Md Russel, Md Hossain, Rofiqa Begum and Jahida Begum.
"Following their arrest, a thorough interrogation was conducted, during which the detainees confessed to their nationalities and intentions. We seized crucial evidence from the detainees, including five mobile phones, rail tickets and a combination of Indian and Bangladeshi currency. These items are believed to be linked to their illegal activities and potential plans for infiltration", he said
