Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday attended a tree plantation drive and ‘Safai Abhiyan’ organised on the occasion of World Environment Day in Agartala and called for a pollution-free environment.
AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Corporator Ratna Dutta and Pintu Ranjan Das participated in the programme held at Maharajganj market of Agartala.
Underlining the theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ of this year’s observance of World Environment Day, the Chief Minister said, “if the environment is not kept free from pollution, our existence will also face a crisis.” Dr. Saha urged upon the people of the state to stay away from using plastic to save the environment and maintain ecological balance.
“The state government has given importance to the use of cloth and cotton products instead of plastic. The issue of banning plastic should not only be talked about, but public awareness should also be implemented to make it a reality,” Dr. Saha said, adding that apart from law enforcement, people should also be made aware of the harmful aspects of using plastic.
