In a significant breakthrough, the Kailashahar police have apprehended the former panchayat secretary of Srinathpur village, Yamir Ali, nearly a year after he allegedly embezzled a staggering 37 lakhs of government funds. The arrest comes after an extensive investigation initiated by the Gaurnagar Block Development Officer (BDO), Rameshwar Chakraborty.
The incident unfolded in the fiscal years of 2016-2017 and 2019-2020 when Yamir Ali, serving as the panchayat secretary, purportedly siphoned off the funds meant for the pelassetting of thirteen bamboos in the Srinathpur village panchayat area.
The irregularities were brought to light during a departmental audit, prompting BDO Rameshwar Chakraborty to file a formal complaint with the Irani police station on October 29 last year. Following the complaint, Yamir Ali was dismissed from his position.
Subsequently, the accused managed to evade the authorities, but was finally apprehended from the poultry market under Kailasahar Police Station. He was escorted to the Irani Police Station for preliminary questioning before being presented at the Kailasahar court.
The arrest of Yamir Ali has been hailed as a significant step towards upholding accountability and transparency in the administration of government funds. The case serves as a stark reminder of the need for robust oversight and timely action against financial malpractice within the public sector.
