Exit & opinion poll restricted from Feb 16 till Feb 27 following assembly poll

The Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte on Friday issued a directive on opinion and exit polls for the upcoming state election and said that no exit and opinion poll would be allowed from February 16 – 7 PM till February 27 – 7 PM.

Interacting with the media persons on Friday here at Agartala DM office, the CEO said that on February 15 and 16; political parties can advertise their campaigns only in print media. In this case, according to the type of campaign, the political parties have to take the certificate from the state and district level MCMC committee beforehand, he told reporters.

He further informed that after 4 pm on February 14, political program shall not be propagated, re-broadcasted, disseminated, practiced etc. on electronic media, radio, cable network, website, and social media. But constructive discussions can be held regarding elections, he added further.

Meanwhile, he informed that from January 18 this year till February 9, goods worth Rs. 32 crores have been confiscated, which is about 12 times more than the 2018 assembly elections. Vehicles are being inspected throughout the day at all the checkpoints that have been set up for the election.
