The state transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday wrote to the Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotirmoy Scindia and sought his intervention in expediting the flight services from Agartala MBB Airport to Jorhat and Hyderabad.
“The AAl in its Winter Flights Schedule started from 20th October, 2023 has include operational of the Jorhat-Agartala-Jorhat route by SpiceJet and on the Hyderabad-Agartala-Hyderabad route by IndiGo, but the concerned Airline Operators not yet started their operations,” the letter reads.
He stated, “The introduction of flight operations by SpiceJet Airlines in Jorhat Agartala-Jorhat under the RCS-UDAN (Regional Connectivity Scheme Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) and by IndiGo Airlines on the Hyderabad-Agartala-Hyderabad route would be a significant step towards boosting air connectivity from Agartala with rest of the country.”
“Jorhat, the second capital of Assam endowed with its rich cultural and educational hub, tea industries; tourism has seen remarkable economic growth in recent years. Similarly, the Agartala Hyderabad route holds great potential for commerce, trade, Higher Education, higher medical treatment and tourism for the people of Tripura and rest of the country,” he writes to Scindia.
