A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against 10 individuals, including the former secretary of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), Tapas Ghosh, for their alleged involvement in financial irregularities.
The FIR, as confirmed by a senior police official on Thursday, also implicates former TCA vice president Timir Chanda, ex-treasurer Jaylal Das, and three TCA engineers – Tarun Kumar Das, Arunabha Nath, and Rahad Sarkar.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a senior Tripura Police Officer disclosed that the FIR extends to three executives from two Kolkata-based companies, responsible for the installation of floodlights at MBB stadium, and a lifetime member of TCA. The initiation of the FIR is grounded in prima facie evidence of financial improprieties unearthed by a Special Investigating Team (SIT). The alleged irregularities transpired during the installation of floodlights at MBB stadium in the fiscal years 2022-23 and 2023-24. Originally estimated at Rs 10 crore, the financial discrepancies are expected to escalate as the investigation unfolds, according to the official.
The Crime Branch formally filed the case against the implicated individuals following a comprehensive inquiry conducted by a three-member SIT into the accusations.
