Achieving yet another major breakthrough in the state’s medical services, the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital on Monday conducted the first successful kidney transplantation.
The transplantation was conducted on one 20 years old Subham Sutradhar. The kidney has been donated by his mother Munna Saha Sutradhar. Both the mother and the son are in stable condition.
Addressing a press conference soon after the successful transplantation, the Medical Superintendent Dr Shankar Chakraborty said that the entire process of the kidney transplant has been performed by the doctors of Tripura and Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Manipur. The entire cost of the transplant has been borne by the state government, he told reporters.
“The chief minister has always been giving his support to ensure advanced treatment facilities in the state. For this kidney transplant very recently the state government had signed a MoU with Shija Hospitals, Manipur for 5 years,” he said, adding that for this transplant 12 doctors from Manipur. The state government covered all expenses, including travel, accommodation, and an honorarium for the twelve-member medical team from Shija Hospital and Research Center, Manipur, he added.
The doctors’ team from the state of Tripura included Dr Bijit Lodh, Dr Mukut Debnath, Dr Mana Gope, Dr Samaresh Paul, Dr Tapan Debbarma, Dr Bhaskar Majumder, Dr Anupam Majumder Nursing officer Diptanu Sutradhar, Kishan Deb, Sumita Sinha, Prasenjit Mahajan, Naba Tripura.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha congratulated the team of doctors and the medical staff involved in this surgery on successful completion of complex kidney transplant surgery at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital on Monday.
'Today will be marked as a milestone in the history of medical services in our state, which would have seemed impossible even a few days ago,” Dr Saha said. I
He said, “It is only as a result of the continuous steps taken by the state government to improve medical services that complex surgeries like kidney transplant are possible in the state today. It is possible to treat complex diseases in the state, the doctors and medical workers of the state have proved it right again.”
The state government will continue to make continuous efforts to improve medical services in the future, he added.
