Tripura Police apprehended five individuals and seized contraband worth Rs 2 lakh in Agartala city during two separate operations.
Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Sanjit Sen, informed reporters that they received a tip-off late last night about youths selling brown sugar near a school in Agartala.
"Acting on the information, we rushed to the location and found three individuals selling brown sugar, led by Panna Kar Chowdhury. We detained the trio and confiscated two pouches of brown sugar and several empty vials. During interrogation, they disclosed that two more individuals were selling drugs near Agartala Women's College, leading to their arrest," he said.
The individuals arrested were identified as Panna Kar Chowdhury, Ajay Pal, Arjun Pal, Pritush Sarkar, and Abhijit Saha. They were operating a drug distribution network in and around Agartala city.
"We seized 14 grams of brown sugar, 360 vials, two motorcycles, one scooter, and some Indian currency from their possession. The estimated value of the drugs is Rs 70,000," Sen added.
In a separate operation, Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station, Paritosh Das, reported, "Last night, we received information about Amit Debbarma storing a significant quantity of cannabis in a rented house. We conducted a raid and seized 36 kilograms of cannabis, valued at around Rs 1.50 lakh. Amit Debbarma has been arrested, a case has been registered, and he has been produced before the court for police remand."
