Tripura Police today seized cannabis worth lakh rupees from two difference locations and arrested five persons.
The police of Dharmanagar police station arrested two persons with cannabis worth lakh rupee. Due to an e-rickshaw driver the police could arrest these two smugglers. It is learned that four people from different states went to Dharmanagar station by DEMU train from Agartala with some bags. On reaching there, they ask an e-rickshaw driver to take Churaibari. The e-rickshaw driver told them it would take Rs 3,000 however four of them have agreed. Later, the e-rickshaw driver, Kishore Dey, was thinking on what basis they have agreed as the fare is Rs 3,000. The driver of the vehicle suspected and after passing by the railway gate, the e-rickshaws driver and other have detained four of them. After searching their bags, they have found cannabis. Soon they have informed the Dharmanagar police station. The police from Dharmanagar police station managed to arrest two and rest two absconded from the spot. The two who were arrested were identified as Montu Roy and Dhiraj Kumar. Both of their homes are in Bihar. However, Dharmanagar police station OC Shibu Ranjan Dey said that the police of Dharmanagar police station arrested these two on the basis of confidential sources. They were not four but two.
Meanwhile, Teliamura sub-divisional police officer Prasun Kanti Tripura said the police of Mungiakami police station conducted vehicle checking in the 41 mile area.
“Then a passenger Bolero car number TR01E2409 on its way to Ambassa from Agartala was intercepted by the police. After we searched the vehicle seized a total of 215 kg of dry cannabis. Along with that, 3 youths identified as Titon Mia, Bulu Das and Rubel Hossai were arrested”, he said.
He said, the initial estimate is that the estimated market value of seized ganja will be around Rs 3 lakh.
