Alert issued in the Unakoti district of the state after at least five persons were tested COVID positive.
The incident took place on April 14 last after two persons from Pecharthal Nabincherra area reached to the Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital with some health-related complaints and aftermath they were tested COVID positive. Following this the two persons were sent to home isolation, said Unakoti District Surveillance Officer Dr. Sankha Subhra Debnath on Monday evening.
He informed that as per the protocol contact samples were also collected from the family members of the two COVID infected persons, where three more people were tested COVID positive taking the total number of infected persons to five.
Following the incident, alert have been issued across the district and all necessary arrangements have already been made to intensify COVID tests in the district, he said, adding that the District Magistrate along with other officials of the concerned health department were apprised of the report for further necessary action.
He further informed that following an anticipation of the spread of COVID virus, a mock drill was held on April 5 last and accordingly the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Hospital in the Unakoti district was readied to deal with the COVID patients.
Asked about the status of the five COVID infected persons, the District Surveillance Officer said that they are currently in home isolation, while the officials of the concerned health department are in touch with the families.
Meanwhile, the DSO expressed concern over the response of the general public to the COVID tests and said, “Although we intensified COVID tests in various parts of the district, we are facing some issues as some sections of people are refusing to undergo tests. This perhaps is hampering our work on intensifying the tests for further spread of the COVID virus.”
