In a swift response to a recent spate of thefts and robberies that plagued the state on the eve of Puja, the police administration has sprung into action, initiating a special drive to restore security to the affected communities.
After numerous complaints were lodged with the police station, authorities took decisive action, leading to a significant breakthrough. Acting on higher orders, the police executed a special operation resulting in the recovery of stolen gold ornaments valued at a staggering 3 lakh rupees.
Additionally, a stolen scooter was apprehended, further tightening the net on the notorious gang responsible for these criminal activities. Five members of the gang have been apprehended and are currently in police custody.
Superintendent of Police of West District, Kiran Kumar said that two separate cases of theft were registered. In one of these cases, two individuals, identified as Nayan Barman and Uday Dutta, both residents of Renters Colony area, were taken into custody. Their confessions led to the recovery of several stolen gold ornaments.
In the second case, three individuals were arrested in possession of a stolen scooter. The apprehended suspects, Sagar Sarkar, Rahul Das and Bishal Saha are now under police custody. The District Superintendent of Police disclosed that Barman and Dutta had sold the stolen gold ornaments to a jewelry shop in the Lakshmi narayan Bari area. This critical lead enabled the police to recover the stolen goods.
The detainees will undergo preliminary interrogation before being presented in court. Authorities suspect that the masterminds behind this criminal operation may potentially evolve into notorious figures in the city's criminal landscape.
