After the Kadamtala block in North Tripura district, another fresh communal tension is running high in Pekucherra of the district following vandalism of lord Shiva temple and a mosque.
Adequate numbers of security forces have been deployed while mobile internet and text message services have been suspended for the next 72 hours. Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police of the North Tripura district Bhanupada Chakraborty has been removed and attached to the Police headquarter and SP Dhalai Avinash Rai has been given additional charge of SP North.
The incident took place on Monday night after some unidentified person vandalized a Shiva temple at Pekucherra. After the incident came to light on Tuesday morning, a group of locals retaliated by damaging a nearby mosque.
Police said that two suspects were already detained in this connection, while the SP North Bhanupada Chakraborty arrived at the scene promptly to contain the situation.
While the situation is reportedly under control, the atmosphere remains tense. Authorities are closely monitoring the developments to prevent further escalation.
