Various frontal wings of the Pradesh Congress Committee staged a protest today against the Union Budget 2024-25, criticizing it as a budget aimed at appeasing the BJP’s alliance partners. The protest, which included the Youth Congress, NSUI, Mahila Congress and other groups, featured a rally and the burning of the budget document in Agartala city.
Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress President Neel Kamal Saha spoke with reporters and criticized the budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
“Soon after the BJP formed the government, they presented the 2024-25 Union Budget. This budget is against the people. In this budget, the BJP has given special allowances to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, depriving other states. Around Rs 26,000 crore has been allocated to Bihar and Rs 15,000 crore to Andhra Pradesh,” said Saha.
He further pointed out that the primary reason for this year’s budget is to maintain the alliance with Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and N. Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party. “Without them, the BJP is nothing and the government may collapse at any time. This budget is against farmers, youths and the middle class. The BJP has imposed double taxes on many items, creating massive issues. We are protesting this year's budget,” he added.
