The doctors at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala have set a remarkable precedent by successfully performing a complex surgery on a 14-day-old infant.
In a press conference at GB Hospital on Thursday, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Sanjib Debbarma said that a baby was born on May 25 at Khowai Hospital.
After birth, the hospital doctors noticed that the baby was having difficulty in breathing. The physical condition of the child was gradually deteriorating.
“Then that night the child was referred to GB Hospital. The child was admitted to the GB Hospital's Pediatric ICU and treatment was started. After examination, it is found that the child has a heart problem. For which the child's physical condition is getting worse despite being kept on oxygen support. Then the hospital's cardiologist Dr. Rakesh Das and cardiologist Dr. Ananya Sundar Trivedi were called. They tested and identified the real problem. But the condition of the child was such that it was not possible to take the child outside of the state for better treatment. Then both the cardiologists along with other doctors decided to perform a complex surgery on the child”, said the MS.
He further said that according to the decision, the child underwent a complex surgery on June 3.
“Cardiologist Doctor Rakesh Das and Cardiologist Doctor Ananya Sundar Trivedi and their team spent two and a half hours performing this successful complex surgery. The child is currently doing well after the surgery”, the MS said.
Meanwhile, cardiologist Dr. Ananya Sundar Trivedi said that this type of surgery has been done for the first time in GB Hospital.
Since the child was underweight, smuggling weapons was complicated.
The cardiologist also said that initially this complex surgery was done to save the child's life. But it did not solve the problem permanently.
Once the child reaches the age of two to two and a half years, the child will have to undergo another surgery. Then the problem will be completely solved.
“After the successful surgery, the child is currently kept in the general bed of the hospital's children's department. It is expected that the child will be discharged from the hospital after a few days”, said the Doctor.
