Govt barred pen and paper test for evaluating pre-primary students

AGARTALA:

In a significant move, the Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE) in Tripura has recently decided to disallow the use of pen and paper tests for evaluating children aged between 3 and 6 years at the pre-primary level.

According to an unnamed official from the DEE, this decision aligns with the guidelines of the New Education Policy. Instead of traditional assessments, the directive emphasizes a multifaceted approach to evaluation, incorporating daily activities, feedback from parents and peers, and consideration of overall psycho-physical development.

The official emphasized the importance of nurturing young children through play-based learning techniques, including indoor and outdoor activities, fostering fine and gross motor skills, and encouraging storytelling abilities. By prioritizing these methods, the DEE aims to establish a more holistic and developmentally appropriate approach to early childhood education in Tripura.
