Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said today that the current state government is prioritizing improvements in the quality of sports infrastructure.
“To encourage and provide facilities for talented players in the field of sports, quality sports infrastructure is being developed in every part of the state. Additionally, the state government is effectively implementing various projects to modernize the education system,” he said.
Dr. Saha said this while inaugurating several government development projects in Khowai district on Sunday.
The projects include the inauguration of a synthetic astro-turf football field, the inauguration of the newly constructed building of Khowai Singichara Saratchandra Class XII School, and the newly constructed Khowai Government English Medium School.
It is worth noting that under the Khelo India project, a state-of-the-art synthetic astro-turf football field was constructed at a cost of Rs. 5 crore.
“There is an unprecedented mix of culture and art here. The inauguration of the synthetic astro-turf football field today is like a gift for Sharadotsav. This project has been implemented by the sports department of the state government. The field has been developed according to international standards and is recognized by FIFA. While the state government has built this ground, the responsibility of its overall maintenance lies with all of you. The government aims to develop sports infrastructure so that children can engage in sports. Already, seven synthetic astro-turf football fields have been constructed across the state, in various locations,” he said.
He further mentioned that children from the tribal communities of the state also show great interest in sports.
“Unity in diversity has emerged even in the field of sports. Therefore, we must uphold the standards of the game, the state, and the country together. Additionally, an initiative has been taken to build an athletic track by the sports department. I was an athlete myself,” he added.
Dr. Saha also informed that, aside from the construction of the synthetic track, development is underway in other areas, including the creation of a state-of-the-art swimming pool and open gym facilities.
“We have been elected by the people's vote. We are in government because of the majority, and we hold the responsibility for the welfare of the people. Fifty-two individuals have been provided one-time financial assistance under the Chief Minister's State Talent Programme. Talented athletes are encouraged to develop their sporting abilities. Ten sports coaches have been appointed to improve the quality of sports under the Chief Minister’s Sports Development Scheme,” he said.
Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Tinku Roy, MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, MLA Nirmal Biswas, Chairperson of Khowai Zilla Parishad Aparna Singha Roy, Director of Education Department NC Sharma, Khowai District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, and District Superintendent of Police Dr. Ramesh Yadav were present as distinguished guests at the inaugural session.
