To put an end to diseases like Thalassemia, Haemophilia, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said that the state government is planning to mandatory to ensure early screening for diseases like Thalassemia, Haemophilia.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday participated in the observation of the World Thalassemia Day organized by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics and National Health Mission Tripura and Thalassemia Society on Monday.
Addressing the program, Chief Minister said that the main aim to observe this day is to create awareness of one can prevent deceases like Thalassemia.
“The state government is worried about Thalassemia disease. Thalassemia is a blood-related disease. This disease spreads through generations. Awareness is needed of how to prevent it. The government is also planning to make it mandatory to ensure early screening for diseases like Thalassemia, Haemophilia deceases”, he said.
Chief Minister, who is also a Doctor, said that about 1.5 to 2 lakh people in India are affected by Thalassemia and there are about 5 crore Thalassemia carriers.
“10 to 15 thousand children are suffering from Thalassemia in the country every year. While around 383 patients in Tripura are suffering from Thalassemia. Our government will definitely find out a solution to solve on how we can prevent the disease early. In the coming days we have to reduce the number of patients”, he said.
CM Dr Saha also said that if the government can control viruses like Covid because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi then controlling Thalassemia diseases wouldn’t be a big issue.
