Day after the cyclone ‘Midhili’ battered several parts of the state with the gusty wind accompanied by the torrential rain causing damage to agricultural fields, the state agriculture minister on Saturday assured of all forms of assistance to the affected farmers.
A major section of ripe paddy fields in different parts of the state were found damaged on Saturday morning, while the farming land of various seasonal vegetables were toppled to the ground, which submerged under the flooded water.
“The department of agriculture and farmers welfare is presently in process with the survey work, which already started from Saturday morning to take a stock of the affected agricultural fields across the state,” Nath said.
In a function here at Agartala, the minister Ratan Lal Nath said, “A major part of farming land of various seasonal vegetables was badly damaged in several parts, while another section of fields of ripe paddy were toppled to the ground due to the cyclone Midhili.”
“The survey work which is in progress will unveil the actual loss incurred by the farmers across the state, following which we would provide all possible assistance to the farmers,” he said, adding that the government is committed to stand by the farmers affected by the cyclone ‘Midhili’.
Meanwhile, the minister also informed that the power sector has incurred loss due to the cyclone on Friday night, where many electricity pillars were uprooted and found broken.
“Although, the power department officials were in action on Friday night amid the Midhili disaster to ensure uninterrupted power supply. 90% of the affected power supply could be recovered in the Agartala periphery on Friday night itself and the rest would be restored accordingly,” he told reporters.
