Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that a loan of Rs 122 crore has been sought from the Asian Development Bank for the development of the expanded areas of the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
Dr. Saha provided this information in response to a reference period notice brought by MLA Gopal Chandra Roy during the Tripura Legislative Assembly session today.
“Work is being carried out for the overall development of the expanded areas of Agartala Municipal Corporation. These areas were incorporated into the Agartala Municipal Corporation from Gram Panchayats in 2018. Since the 2022 municipal elections, developmental works such as the construction of roads, drains, provision of pure drinking water, electricity, toilets, etc., have been undertaken in these expanded areas under various projects, including the Chief Minister's Urban Development Project, the Fifteenth Finance Commission, the MLA Area Development Project, AMRUT, and Special Assistance to State Capital Investment, among others. Many of these projects have already been completed,” he said.
Dr. Saha further stated that, in addition, a loan of Rs 122 crore has been sought from the Asian Development Bank for the development of these enhanced areas.
“This includes the construction of 20.45 km of roads (concrete pouring, brick laying, paver blocks), 14.75 km of drains, 3,962 pure drinking water connections, installation of 93 medium tube wells, construction of one community hall, one community toilet, 1,329 electrification points (street lights), 27.96 km of street light phases, and 523 rope lights. Apart from these works, the construction of Unity Mall is underway on Amtali Bypass in Ward No. 49, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 150 crore,” he added.
