Govt working to develop Bankul as most attractive tourist spot in Tripura: CM Dr Manik Saha

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated the 78th Bankul Mahamuni festival of the Buddhists community in the Buddha temple at Sabroom Manubankul and said that the government has taken initiative to develop Bankul as one of the most attractive tourist spots of the state.

Exhibition pavilions of 10 government departments were opened on the occasion of the 5-day long festival.

Addressing the inaugural programme, the Chief Minister said that Lord Buddha's words and teachings guide people to follow the right path by establishing peace and harmony. Lord Buddha's words are still relevant today, he said, adding that the state government will provide all possible assistance to complete the work of International Buddhist University at Sabroom.

He said, in addition to religious education, cultural practices, chanting, meditation and sports will be developed in the university. It will be an international standard educational center in the state, he added. He further said that efforts will be made to make the Bankul Mahamuni Buddhist Temple premises attractive to foreign tourists.

Dr Saha unveiled 28 Buddha statues at Bankul Mahamuni Buddha Temple and performed puja at the temple.
