The state fishery minister Sudhangshu Das on Thursday chaired a review meeting here in the conference hall of the office of Directorate of Fisheries in Agartala with the officers and stressed on enhancement of fish production in the state.
During the meeting, the minister asked the officials to expedite the work of implementing the projects and schemes of the department taken up in the previous financial year of 2023-24.
“The primary aim of the meeting is to review the amount of work done as per the set target and the budget of 2023-24 fiscal year. identifying the shortcomings, plans will be chalked out to achieve the goal,” he said.
He said that the major aim of the department is to increase the local production of fish to meet the high demand. The department is working in a mission mood to make the state of Tripura reliant in fish production so that fish are not required to be imported from outside the state, he told reporters.
He however mentioned that fish production work will soon commence in Haoarmia area in Unakoti district. The project was sanctioned in 2023-24, he said, adding that apart from that, four new locations have also been identified that will be used for fish cultivation in the coming days.
