Tripura government is contemplating to enhance the fish production in the state in a bid to meet the adequate demand of fish, said state fishery minister Sudhangshu Das on Wednesday.
He said that government has decided to restore the abandoned water bodies across the state to get those capable for fish farming.
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Wednesday, the minister said, “Emphasis has been laid on increasing fish production in the state by using modern technology and infrastructural development under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampad Yojana.”
“Initiative has been taken to create 100 hectares of new water bodies in the financial year of 2023-24 under the scheme,” he told reporters. He said that the department has already started the work of demarcation of abandoned water bodies and make it suitable for fish farming.
He said, “The central government has sanctioned Rs. 24.11 crore as central assistance for the financial year 2022-23 under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampad Yojana for the development of the fishery sector in the state. Out of the total sanctioned fund Rs. 5.77 crore have been given to the state government.”
“Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampad Yojana, 13 new IMC hatcheries will be set up in the financial year 2023-24, 10 colored fish breeding centers will be set up, 55 bicycles, 100 motorcycles and 50 three-wheelers will be provided with heat-insulated boxes for selling fish. 1 Fish Value Added Unit will be set up at Champahour in Khowai district at a cost of Rs. 50 lakhs,” he added.
