International day for women observed at Agartala

AGARTALA:

The state level international day for women was observed here at Agartala Muktadhara auditorium on Tuesday with the minister for social education and social welfare Tinku Roy inaugurating the event here at Agartala Muktadhara auditorium.

This year the theme of the celebration is – “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.”

Addressing the gathering minister Tinku Roy mainly stressed on the need of gender equality in building nation and said that several schemes prioritising the women were undertaken by the Centre and the state government.

He also stressed on the prevention of domestic violence and said that the society should be more aware to prevent domestic violence. Not only the government, but also various clubs, social organizations and NGOs should come forward for this, he said.

On the other hand the Chairperson for the Tripura Commission for Women Barnali Goswami addressed the gathering and stressed on the need of achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls through innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age.

This year the event of international women’s day put spotlight on the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces and addressing online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.

UP govt brings fresh measures after stampede deaths in Mahakumbh Mela

A day after at least 30 people were killed in a predawn stampede at the Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh government has enforced stricter measures for better crowd management and safety of devotees as it restricted vehicular movement, cancelled VIP passes, increased security deployment, and ended needless restrictions on the pontoon bridges that connect the mela city.
