The leader of opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday wrote to the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to seek his intervention over disallowing West Bengal TMC leader Anubrata Mondal to run Shantiniketan Medical College here in Tripura.
Raising a serious allegation of money laundering, Chaudhury stated that the ‘Swadheen Trust’ managed by Trinamool Congress leader of Birbhum district in West Bengal Anubrata Mondal who is in jail on the charge of serious crimes and corruption has ventured to run Shantiniketan Medical College here and accordingly started activities before getting necessary permission from the state government.
He alleged that the ‘Swadheen Trust’ has applied to Tripura government to hand over the available services, facilities, and infrastructure of the state referral hospital - Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital to use as their attached hospital to run the medical college. Before the government's decision, they started mobilizing materials, equipment, and hospital beds, occupying the space and infrastructure of IGM, which became a cause of concern.
Chaudhuri in his letter stated, “Tripura has two medical colleges and having more such colleges is always welcome. But it can never be appreciable to hand over the facilities of the state’s referral hospital to any private entity, as that will certainly make an essential and basic service, like, health facilities, costlier and more troublesome for the people of the state.”
