Landslides Paralyze Assam-Agartala National Highway

AGARTALA:

The Assam Agartala National Highway No. 8 has been severely affected by landslides near Saikabari under Teliamura Sub-division of Tripura’s Khowai District bringing traffic to a standstill.

As per sources, heavy rainfall which began on Tuesday afternoon triggered multiple landslides, causing portions of the highway to collapse under the weight of soil and debris.

“The landslides occurred dangerously close to the foothills, exacerbating the situation and stranding ambulances and hundreds of vehicles on both sides of the affected areas. This sudden disruption has left drivers, passengers and commuters in distress as they remain trapped without any means of communication or movement”, said sources.

The source further said that efforts to clear the debris and stabilize the highway have been underway since the incident occurred. It took authorities nearly two hours to begin restoring traffic flow after painstakingly removing soil and debris from the road.
