Left-Congress leaders seek DGP’s intervention in ending violence in Tripura

Expressing concern over the sporadic incidents of violence across the state following the poll results, the leaders of the Left-Congress venture, Monday sought the intervention of the Director General of Police and demanded independent police action in mitigating violence.

The Left-Congress leaders alleged of ‘barbarism’ on oppositions since March 2 result declaration and submitted a memorandum with the DGP. The delegation comprised of Left front convenor Narayan kar, Congress leader Ashish Kumar Saha, former minister of then Left front government Manik Dey and others.

Hey submitted a memorandum with the DGP and alleged, “From the moment the BJP got majority in the counting of votes in Assembly election, on 2 March 2023, the entire state sparked with an unprecedented backlash of terror and intimidations.”

“In the name of celebration of victory by the ruling BJP, its unruly workers let loose unbridled attacks with inhuman ferocity on the people particularly targeting the opposition leaders, workers and supporters that resulted in loss and destruction of huge number properties, physical attacks on hundreds of persons many of whom had to undertake treatment in hospital,” the memorandum reads.

The Left-Congress leaders alleged of extensive ransacking, looting and destroying of houses of oppositions across the state and stated, “Till now there are report of more than one thousand such incidents.”

The memorandum further stated, “A complete lawlessness has been prevailing in the state from last 2 March onwards. The police in many places though are trying to take control over the situation, but they do not dare to arrest any perpetrator because they have attachment with ruling BJP.”

They however demanded the DGP to direct all the police officials to act upon in unbiased manner without being interfered with any political personality. Their demand also includes Suo-moto registration of incidents of attacks carried out since March 2 last, initiation of measures to adequately compensate the victim families along with necessary security cover and others.

UP govt brings fresh measures after stampede deaths in Mahakumbh Mela

A day after at least 30 people were killed in a predawn stampede at the Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh government has enforced stricter measures for better crowd management and safety of devotees as it restricted vehicular movement, cancelled VIP passes, increased security deployment, and ended needless restrictions on the pontoon bridges that connect the mela city.
